Golden milk, also known as turmeric milk, has many beneficial health properties. Curcumin (the active property in turmeric) is loaded with antioxidants, helps to reduce inflammation and boost immunity, and may improve memory and brain function.
I've made Golden Milk many different ways but below is my favorite combination thus far, warming with a little spice.
INGREDIENTS:
1 can of light coconut milk (BPA Free)
1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup, to taste (can substitute with honey)
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
2 - 3 inch cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
A dash of cayenne pepper
5 - 7 black peppercorns (can substitute with a pinch of ground pepper)**
**Do not omit the black pepper, it improves bioavailability of the curcumin which aids in absorption. Coconut oil may also improve absorption of curcumin so feel free to add 1-2 teaspoon(s) of that as well!
DIRECTIONS:
Place small saucepan over low-med heat. Add all ingredients and whisk until combined.
Bring to steam, just below a simmer - do not let it boil. Continue to stir occasionally for about 10 minutes.
Remove from heat and strain using fine mesh strainer. Taste and add additional maple syrup, if needed.
Pour into mug, top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and enjoy!
In health and happiness,
